Ways to Overcome Negative Attitudes

I am not saying a Positive Attitude can make you Successful,

I am saying a Positive Attitude will make you Successful ~ Norman Vincent Peale.

This post has been adapted from the learning which I have got from the book of famous authors -Norman Vincent Peale, Robert Schuller, and Jim Rohn. Just pick any books written by them, after reading or at least going through the pages in a hurry you will have positive vibes and will make you feel highly motivated, implementing the concepts is your option.

Starting with Possibility Thinker’s Creed developed by Dr. Schuller:

When faced with a mountain, I will not quit!

I will keep on striving until

I climb over, find a pass through, tunnel underneath, or

simply stay and turn the mountain into a gold mine, with God’s Help!

Believe, really believe, you can move a mountain, and you can. You can win success by believing you can succeed. Belief, the “I’m-positive-I-can” attitude, generates the power, skill, and energy needed to do. When you believe I-can-do-it, the how-to-do-it develops.

Stop Thinking "Can I?" and Start Thinking "HOW Can I?"

A question like Can I? and How Can I? may appear to be very similar. However, the reality is that they are worlds apart in terms of results. Can I? is a question filled with hesitation, confusion, and doubt. It imposes limitations. If that is the question we regularly ask ourselves, we are undermining our efforts before even beginning. How many people could have accomplished much in life but failed to try because they doubted and answered no to the question “Can I?”

When you ask yourself “How can I?” you always give yourself a fighting chance to achieve something. The most common reason people don’t overcome the odds is that they don’t challenge them enough. They don’t push their capacity. They always try to remain in their comfort zone. How can I? assumes there is a way. You just need to find it. Focussing on How part challenges us, changes our thought process and eventually we step forward.

Regular Self Talk and practicing/listening to positive words can help to reduce negative thoughts.

Negative Thoughts: How to Stop Them

  • Practice Self-Awareness - Add Mindfulness to it.
  • Identify Your Negative Thoughts - Look for the root cause. "There is No Unsolvable Problem"
  • Replace Negative Thoughts - Instead include Positive thoughts.
  • Be Ready to Accept Criticism - Just think that I am not alone.

  1. Stop Your First Reaction
  2. Remember the Benefit of Getting Feedback
  3. Listen for Understanding
  4. Say Thank You

Even if someone is harsh and rude, listen to them till the end and thank them.

Always remember to have an "Attitude of Gratitude"

  • Use Journal - Jot down whatever thoughts which come to your mind, bad thoughts must go into the dustbin and positive thoughts remain in your diary. The inertia of steps explained above should always be mentioned.

Proposed Model to Achieve Your Goal

After few reading books and just trying to fit what I have learned from Self-help books and come up with a model which suits every scenario.

I would like to call it "Achieve Your Goal - 1.0" and this will keep on evolving as I learn more from the books.

(Red Box Contains Book Name, is a suggestion based on what I have read till now)

Some Recommended steps -

> Have the Desire to achieve something (First and Foremost)
> Believe in yourself, start thinking big (Nothing is Impossible)
> Add Positive Affirmation, Talk to Yourself (Self Talk)
> Understand Others and Build Good relationships with everyone (People Friendly)
> Make yourself Financially Independent (Difficult topic to Understand)

Feel free to provide your valuable suggestion. Thank you.

Ego In Everyone Life

You must be wondering why I have taken "Ego" and trying to explain it.

Let's understand the basic definition of Ego -

  • The “I” or self of any person; a person as thinking, feeling, and willing, and distinguishing itself from the selves of others and from objects of its thought.
  • Self-esteem or self-image;

This post is about my learning from the book - "Ego Is The Enemy" by Ryan Holiday.

I am also sharing the discussion we had in Awakening Mind Groups on Ego Is The Enemy

and bonus lesson you will learn from the book 'Who will cry When you Die'

Ego is something that is with everyone and remains with you as long as you are alive. To lead a better life or to become better a person in private and public we should control it.

Not going to cover the whole book, trying to through a bit of light on 'Failure'. How a human behave when they fail at any point in life.

At the time of failure, it is very easy to hate. Hate allows us to look for a blame solution i.e. it makes someone else responsible. It's a distraction too; we don't do much else when we are busy getting revenge/investigating the wrongs that have supposedly been done to us.

Does it get closer or helps us to be what we want to become - The answer is 'NO'....

It just keeps us away/worse/block/arrest our development activity and our Goal looks like a daunting task. Instead of feeling low or getting into depression, just take this as an opportunity for improvement. Behave like a child and learn like them - fall, fall, fall, and suddenly start walking without any help.

Final Thoughts on the Ego -

  • For everything that comes next, Ego is the enemy…
  • Not to aspire or seek out of Ego.
  • To have success without Ego.
  • To push through failure with strength, not Ego.

Keeping your Ego at bay is like keeping your house clean:

  • Every day you must sweep the floor or else the dust settles and accumulates.
  • Sweep the floor every minute of every day without any miss.
  • And then again and you never stop.

I hope once you go through the takeaways, you will know how to take care of your Ego.

Feel free to share your views.
